A note from the Chairman of the Gillingham Chamber of Commerce
Gillingham Chamber of commerce is on the up, with plenty of new members continuing to join us. During the past six months we have welcomed new business to our Town and unfortunately seen the closure of a couple of high street shops; We are sad to see the closure of Gilyard Scarth, The Cats Protection league, Charlies and the departure of Arnie and Sarah from the Wine bar, our regular Networking Meeting place.
We extend a warm welcome to following New Businesses:
The New Donkey Sanctuary shop they have open in Gilyard Scarth’s vacated premises all proceeds taken in this shop go towards looking after saved animals at their local farm Locks Lane, Gillingham.
Anne Hitchcock is looking to reopen the downstairs of the Slade Building in the square and is seeking ideas from organisations and the public through open days to invite people in to view the building and suggest what type of business the towns residents feel should be there; Anne explained she is restoring the building to its former glory.
Further into The Square there is a new Beauticians opening and a Child-care centre in the former Topsie Rabbit Building at Coachman’s Corner.
Folks it is very important to continue to support and use the local businesses to keep the local economy buoyant.
Our Network Happy Hour Evenings are always held on the first Thursday of the month. We welcome fellow business owners to join us in our New Meeting place The Dolphin Pub from 6pm for a Happy Hour Event to have a chat and a chance to network so please drop in some months we have guest speakers who give a short 20 minute informative talk which have been very popular; Different companies sponsor the 1st drink and are offered a short 5 minutes if they wish to talk about the business.
Gillingham carnival will be on 5th October, the Carnival Committee request that various shops participate in the Window Spotting Competition. Forms will be available from Cullingford Carpets and forms can be dropped back to Cullingfords; this event is always very well attended, seeing large numbers of people standing in our High Street, it’s a great opportunity for those businesses on the High Street to get the Windows dressed full of the Goods that you offer giving the people of Gillingham something to look at while they wait for the Carnival Parade to start.
The Chamber are organising a Race Night on the 22nd November, Tickets are £10.00 each full details can be obtained from our membership secretary buy Lyrica europe who will be happy to discuss the event with you.
On the 29th November will see The Festive Light Switch on, this is an event that will have a parade through the High Street, to see the large Christmas Tree being sponsored by Our members Station Road Garage switched on, It will be lovely to request all our High Street Businesses with their Windows and Door ways dressed and lights switched on to illuminate the Highstreet on the eve 29th; Why not offer a late night opening and invite Customers in for a Mince Pie and complimentary drink and the opportunity to purchase goods from your shops. This Event is extremely popular and always attended by hundreds of people, too good an opportunity to miss passing trade, by staying closed.
The Council will be providing lights throughout the town and the Christmas Trees mounted above shops to give a fantastic Christmas Atmosphere during the festive period.
On the 5th December the Chamber will be organising a Christmas Dinner in place of the Network Evening at the Dolphin Pub, Tickets will be limited, we shall be sending out details shortly.
Lastly, we were sad to see the resignation of Janet Pegram from our committee, we wish Janet well and thank Janet for the time she was on our committee and wish her well for the future.
